McAfee VirusScan
Brief Summary:
McAfee VirusScan is a very good product for both home and enterprise use.
Their scan engine technology has put them in the forefront of products that
detect unknown viruses. Their detection rates are very good and put them in
the top tier of anti-virus products.
Price:
$29.00 US
Pros:
- Easy to use interface
- Versions available for Windows, Macintosh and many Unixes
- Regular updates (weekly) and special updates when needed
- Online virus encyclopedia includes other vendors' names for viruses
- Updates can be automated through scheduling interface
Cons:
- Support has suffered greatly since the buyout by NAI, but is improving
- Alerts can be confusing to the average user
- Updates can be confusing, because they offer both DAT only and DAT plus
engine updates without clearly explaining the difference (could take a
lesson from Trend here)
- Large memory footprint
